The glass castings we produced for Austin artist Hunter Cross were encased in a custom metal frame, then surrounded with this organic gunite form. However the surface was darker and rougher than what was envisioned. We proceeded to formulate a custom concrete mix that could not only achieve the desired color, but also fill in surface imperfections and adhere to the cured gunite. Once the formula was refined and the surface was troweled, a custom LED lighting system was installed behind the glass castings. The piece is on permanent display in a green space at Mueller Austin.
